Sodium Lactate also acts as a buffering agent which works by balancing a formula’s pH level to maintain healthy skin. The normal pH for skin ranges from pH 4 to 6 and when out of balance, either too acidic or alkaline, it can cause sensitivity, irritation, as well as deplete the skin barrier. The skin’s natural barrier is essential to maintain its normal daily functions, while preventing water loss, and protecting it from harmful pollutants.
